Time Flies or where did the winter go?

I have let winter slip by and have not posted anything since January! I guess that means I have been busy doing other things and not keeping my blog up to date.

This is true! I have 3 other blogs to keep up to date! All for activities  here at the park. Our hiking group Desert Explorers, the Motorcycle group, and our Church web site, plus the corresponding Facebook pages too!

Those activities have kept me busy as well. Hiking has been my biggest activity here at Rincon Country West. I have been a co-leader this year and as such I have researched hikes that provide an alternative to our regular hikes. These hikes provide a little longer distance and could be classified as “moderate” in difficulty.

Each Monday about 3-6 of us go on a hike we have never done before to determine if the hike would be a good hike for the whole group or as an alternate hike. On Wednesdays we hike as a group. Our group has up to 40-50 hikers, especially in January and February. So having 2 different hikes helps a lot.

This year has been a “Bucket List” Year for me and several other of our hikers.

My first hike crossed off of my bucket list was Picacho Peak. 13 of us, 12 of which had never done this hike before, took off at 5:30 am, so we could be on the trail by 7am. It was a cool but beautiful morning and we began our 6.1 mile (round trip) at daylight (7:02 am) The trail began flat and soon became a lazy climb up the side of the mountain, until we got to the first ascent via cables! The ascent was the most difficult of all the cable ascents, but all did it without complaint! Watch the video to see our ascent to the summit of Picacho Peak. picacho crewNeedless to say when we got back to the vehicles, we were tired, but happy hikers, who crossed a hike off of our list!

Our next “Bucket list” hike was Wasson Peak. This was a hike of 7.78 miles round trip to the top of WassongroupWasson Peak. I will let the video show you the hike! Again another successful completion of a bucket list hike.

This year has been a great hiking season. It is winding down now as our hikers are packing up and heading for home. To see more video of our hikes go to my Youtube page. while there, please subscribe to my channel and you will be kept up to date on future videos!

Our next major hiking adventure, took 13 of us to Sedona, Arizona. Red Rock Country. we had beautiful weather this year, with no rain or snow.Sedona hiking trip 012 Check out the hiking playlist for videos of Sedona.

Hiking has taken up a lot of my time. With walking the dog and hiking 2 days a week, I do about 36 miles a week. That has helped my diet and exercise program. More about that in my next post!

Happy Trails
